Recently, a friend of mine started a new business. When she told me she would be using her long career of nursing to also branch into Botox, I had so many questions. The more I asked around, the more I realized a lot of people have questions about Botox. So, Candice Rookes from R and R Rejuvenation was kind enough to take time out her very busy schedule to answer some of them for me. I hope this helps any of you who were wondering what this procedure is all about.
1. What made you interested in this new path?
C- Years ago I had several friends and co-workers that I had noticed looked great. I would ask “Did you get a hair cut? Colour your hair? Get new glasses?” They would eventually confess “Botox”. Even if I didn’t provide the product to you, I can still be fooled! It is a subtle change that has a very positive impact.
2. What is your favourite part of the job?
C- My favourite part is how much my clients love the results. When they leave they are ecstatically happy.
3. Who is a good candidate for Botox?
C- Anyone male or female that wants a boost to their self confidence by decreasing the lines in their face.
4. When should you start treatments?
C- Younger people in their twenties are using the product to prevent the formation of deep lines. They heard their mom say “Don’t make that face or it will stay that way!”
5. What is Botox?
C- It is a compound that is used to prevent the facial muscles from responding to the signals from the nerves to contract.
6. What does the procedure entail?
C- A very small amount (2-4 millimeters) of product is injected into several areas of the upper face using small, fine needles. Each injection takes a fraction of a second.
7. Does it hurt?
C- No. It is quite painless. It’s not even as painful as plucking an eyebrow.
8. Are there side effects?
C- No there usually isn’t. The person administering it will have forms for you to fill out about allergies and general health first. Some people may get a small bruise at the injection site, but that doesn’t happen very often.
9. Will I still have expression after?
C- Yes you will, but not as strongly. The goal is to reduce the amount the muscle can contract in order to keep the muscle relaxed and smooth.
10. What will the aftercare be?
C- There is no aftercare required. The only restrictions are no massages or laying on your face for at least six hours after injection. The product is not injected deep into your skin, it’s actually quite shallow of an injection. So anything that might make you sweat (tanning, exercise, etc) could probably wait until the next day just to be on the safe side of not altering your results. For example, laying on your face might spread the product, which could weaken the affect to the targeted area.
11. How often do you go?
C- Two or three times a year is sufficient. The product lasts from four to six months. Some clients only use it occasionally when something important pops up like weddings, photo shoots or school reunions.
12. What would you tell anyone who is interested in getting it done?
C- Botox does not cause paralysis. It will, however, cause you to look refreshed, relaxed, and stress free. It will boost your self confidence and in turn, make you look more confident, and I personally feel confidence is the best accessory!
13. What if someone discontinues use?
C- If you decide to discontinue, your face will look exactly how it did before you started the injections.
14. What would you like to debunk about Botox?
C- I think Hollywood has done a terrible job of portraying and exaggerating the effects of Botox. It does not cause such paralysis that the face is frozen in place. The other thing is to not get it confused with filler. Botox will never give you a set of pouty lips.
There you have it ladies and gents! I really wanted to talk to Candice about this not just to support her business, but because I find a lot of people tend to think the worst of Botox sometimes. Rather than be scared of it, talk to someone who administers it and you will learn a lot about the actual process. I think if it’s something that can boost your self esteem, then it’s worth looking into. A lot of us get a little boost when we do our nails, hair and eyelashes. This is very much the same idea. So, if you have any questions, feel free to message Candice and get the answers you’re looking for. She’s very personable, makes you feel comfortable, and will be able to help you decide what will work best for you.
Thank you so much for taking time to answer my questions Candice and good luck on your new endeavour!
