Just When You Thought Drinks Couldn’t Get Any Better…..

Have you ever tried infusing your alcohol? It’s super easy, delicious, and the perfect way to actually enjoy the taste of your drinks. You can make it exactly to your taste, which personally I love. All you need to do is put your flavour of choice into your alcohol of choice in a sealable jar, give it a good shake after you seal it up and store. You can let it infuse for up to two weeks in a cool, dark place. I would start tasting after three days or so though so that you can control how powerful the flavour is (especially if you’re dealing with hot peppers). When you feel the flavour is at the perfect place for you, just strain with a cheesecloth and then drink, drink, drink. Below is a list of what flavours work the best with certain liquors.

Apple- Vodka, Whiskey
Two apples peeled and sliced.

Apricot- Whiskey
Two apricots peeled and sliced.

Bacon- Vodka
Two tablespoons bacon fat and a cooked slice in the jar for visual appeal. Dispose of bacon when it’s done infusing.

Basil- Tequila
4-5 sprigs.

Blackberry- Tequial, Vodka
1 cup of blackberries.

Blueberry- Tequila, Vodka
1 cup of blueberries.

Bubble Gum- Vodka
24 pieces of Bazooka Joe.

Chilli- Tequila, Vodka
4 chilli’s.

Cinnamon- Vodka
2-3 cinnamon sticks.

Cocoa- Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey
1 cup cocoa beans.

Coffee- Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey
1 cup coffee beans.

Cranberry- Tequila, Vodka
1 cup cranberries.

Cucumber- Vodka
1/2 cucumber sliced.

Dill- Vodka
7-8 sprigs.

Elderberry- Vodka
1 cup elderberries.

Elderflower- Vodka
5-6 sprigs.

Ginger- Tequila
3/4 cups sliced, unpeeled ginger.

Grapefruit- Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey
1 grapefruit, sliced.

Green Tea- Vodka
2 tea bags.

Jalapeño- Jalapeño, Vodka
4 jalapeños.

Jolly Rancher- Vodka
12-15 pieces of candy.

Lemon- Vodka, Whiskey
3 lemons, sliced.

Lime- Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey
3 limes, sliced

Mango- Tequila, Vodka
2 mangos, peeled and sliced.

Mint- Tequils, Vodka, Whiskey
1 cup fresh mint leaves.

Orange- Tequila, Vodka
2 oranges, sliced

Raspberry- Tequila, Vodka
1 cup raspberries.

Strawberry- Tequila, Vodka, Whiskey
1 cup strawberries, sliced.

Vanilla- Vodka, Whiskey
5-7 vanilla beans.

*Note* Most of these recipes are made by the quart jar, so if you’re making a larger batch, then feel free to add more of your ingredients. Like I said, it’s to taste, so the longer you leave it, the stronger your flavours will be. Also, don’t be afraid to mix and match. Habanero/mango for martinis or bacon/jalapeño for Caesars. Or how about bacon/dill for everything. You would just add the same mount of both flavours so one doesn’t outweigh the other.

If you have any other infusion ideas, fire them off my way. I feel as though this is going to be my favourite summer project to date!
