Sometimes you see a great pair of sunglasses on a stand and you fall so in love that you grab them without thinking. Then when you get them home and try them on something doesn’t seem right. They just don’t look as good as you thought that they might. Well, part of the problem might be that you aren’t buying the right shape for your face. With so many styles and shapes out there now, you have to go in ready to wage war. Be picky. Not every style is going to suit you. The key is to find a kind that works and then stick to that formula. Sure, you can change the shape a bit, but if you’re not into wasting your money then stick with the same general size or style. They will be a hit every time.

Oval Face

So with an oval face shape you can literally get away with murder. Every style works. So if this is your face shape, then try to branch out with different styles, colors and shapes. You don’t have to pigeon hole yourself. You can play around and have fun and see what you personally prefer to wear. Some of the most flattering for oval however, are cat eyed frames, square shaped frames and oversized round sunglasses. Think Jackie O.

Square Face

If you have a square face, you have a broad forehead, prominent jawline and a wide chin and cheekbones. To provide balance look for sunglasses that have round, oval or curved frames. These will help balance your faces proportions. Any frames like cat eye sunglasses that sit higher on your face will help soften the jawline.

Round Face

Round faces are full and round and have little to no angles to them. The width and the length of the face are similar. Selecting frames that are the opposite of this face shape adds the definition your looking for. Stay away from any round frames because they will just draw attention to the roundness of your face shape. Flattering styles would be rectangular sunglasses, square shaped sunglasses rectangle shaped sunglasses and retro styles like Ray-Ban Wayfarers.

Long Face

If you have a long face that means you have high cheekbones, strong jawline and a raised forehead. Your face is longer than it is wide. You’re looking for frames that visually shorten your faces length a bit for balance. Frames with strong colors, embellishments, or wrap around frames also help create the illusion of a shorter face. Don’t look for narrow or small frames, they will just work against you. Large embellished sunglasses, oversized frames and frames with contrasting colors will work wonders for you.

Heart Shaped Face

The signs of a heart shaped face are a wide forehead, high cheekbones and a narrow jawline or pointed chin. This face shape is ultra feminine. You want to buy sunglasses that broaden the jawline and minimize the forehead. Choose shades that are wider at the bottom , like aviators or all over oversized sunglasses. You never want a small frame on a heart shaped face because it will exaggerate the width. Aviators, rimless sunglasses and butterfly sunglasses are your best bets.

Sunglasses are a huge staple for me. They are great for hiding my face when I have no makeup on and I love to use them as an accessory. Considering you can find every kind of style in every price range, you don’t have to break the bank to look good. So now that you know what to focus on, go have fun with it. As long as you have the general idea of what to look for you will add a great pair to your collection in no time.
