Whitewashing wood is super simple and has a great worn effect. You can literally do any wood with this technique. From ceilings and walls, to bed frames and tables and chairs. I would suggest putting drop cloths or garbage bags down though because it’s somewhat runny.
All you have to do is add one part water to one part flat white latex paint. If you want the colour lighter and for the wood to show through even more, then just add more water to your mixture until it’s at the point that you desire.
Now, you can apply with a paint brush, but if you really want that whitewashed look, then use a washcloth to apply. Just soak the cloth in the mixture, then wring out and apply going up and down with the grain of the wood.
If you’re unsure if you can pull it off, start small before you do a whole wall of your house. Begin with some frames or a small desk to see if it’s going to be the look that you’re after. Good luck and happy whitewashing!
