If you have any old furniture in your house that needs a face lift I would like to throw the idea of using chalk paint into the ring. It’s a well known paint used for furniture but you can basically use it for anything. It’s best known for being one of the easiest ways to achieve the antiqued look. A lot of people love it because there is no smell, you don’t have to sand anything before application, you don’t have to strip anything AND you don’t have to use primer first. Can I get an amen? Seriously. Those are all the worst parts of painting…..besides actually doing the painting. Here is how you can achieve a wonderful and flawless finish using chalk paint.

Chalk Painting Old Furniture

1- Wipe down your furniture with an old rag to remove any dust or residue.
2- Grab your brush and apply your first coat.
3- Let dry for at least 30 minutes ( it dries super fast, another huge plus)
4- Apply your second coat
5- Let dry for another 30 minutes
6- Apply wax (which can be found in any Hardware store). And remember the darker the wax on light paint the more aged it will look.

Voila! Add some new hardware and you have a completely redone piece of furniture. Now to achieve a more antiqued look, before you add wax lightly go over any edges with sand paper. Any place that would be bumped or worn down naturally. Then add your wax so it sinks into the spaces. Could that be any easier? And it’s so fast it can be done as a rainy day activity. Have fun and if you try it feel free to post your results in the comment section. I would love to see how yours turned out!
