I have written a lot about things to save your hard earned money on, and things to splurge and treat yourselves. Summer trends are no different. These are things that every woman needs for the summer because they are both practical and universally flattering on everyone. You can definitely go either low end or high end, that part is up to you. Either way, they are things to consider investing in.
Wedges
I wear wedges literally all summer long. My reasons are three fold. One, I live in Canada and I have to wear my favorite opened toed wedges within the two weeks that we have no snow. Two, they are easier to walk in than heels but still give your legs the same length that your regular pumps do. Three, hello outdoor events where you’re constantly walking in grass. I’m sure all you ladies know what happens when you mix spiky heels and grass….you sink in every step like you’re walking on golf tees and almost break your damn ankle.
Nude Lipstick
I don’t care what your skin color or hair color is. A good nude lipstick works on everyone. I love golden summer skin and freckles. So if you have a day appointment try throwing on some mascara with some nude lipstick. It still looks put together, but in a more natural and summery way.
White Button Down Shirt
Some summer days can get pretty hot. So if you can manage to look crisp and cool maybe no one will notice your pit stains down to your belt or the two swimming pools happening under each breast. Pairing a crisp white button down with any kind of tailored shorts can easily take you from day to night or from the office to happy hour. And guess what? The outfit looks pretty kick ass when paired with those wedges I spoke about earlier.
V- neck top
Ok, let’s get one thing straight right now. I mean a regular v-neck shirt. Not something that requires two rolls of boob tape and two magic elves to get your breasts to stay in place. I mean a regular, run of the mill v-neck. The thing with this style of shirt is that it draws attention to your beautiful face and elongates your neck. Pull one on and throw your hair back in a bun and “Audrey Hepburn, is that you?”. Yeah, not really, but you’ll look nice none the less.
Nail Polish That Matches Your Skin Tone
A summer manicure can be a hard thing to hold onto. Especially if gardening is your thing. Even if you use gloves you know that your going to chip half of your polish off in the scrubbing off dirt process. A polish that matches your skin tone won’t show those chips as bad, plus its timeless and actually slims the hands appearance which helps since the summer heat can make your hands swell. It’s a total winning package.
Diamond Studs
Unless your married to Daddy Warbucks, I mean some fake diamond studs. They are small and won’t get caught on your sweater when your flailing your arms around after you find a spider on you. Plus they reflect light onto your skin. Remember that oval and round diamonds are the sparkliest.
A Maxi Dress
A maxi dress is great for different reasons. Sometimes it’s so hot that you don’t feel like walking around naked. Hello maxi dress. Sometimes you have a special occasion that you don’t feel like shaving your legs for. Hello maxi dress. Sometimes you want a cover up on the beach so that you don’t have to chase your child around in your bikini. Hello maxi dress! A nice and flowy maxi can be the answer to a lot of hot summer days.
A Great Pair Of Cut Offs
Not vagina shorts to wear on Captain Players Booty Boat. I mean actual cut offs. You can totally get away with wearing nice fitting cut offs different places. However, keep the ones that have your pockets showing to running around your house and doing errands. The neater the look, the more places you can wear them to.
White Jeans
You can only get away with wearing white jeans in the summer. Or I can anyway, I told you earlier I live in Canada. If I wear white jeans in the winter I’m going to look like a floating torso and head. Anyhow, white jeans always look fresh. Pair them with a tank and blazer for a night out and you’re ready to go.
Sheer Blouse
A sheer blouse can be dressed up or dressed down. You can pair them with tanks, shorts, jeans ect and still keep a very summery and simple vibe. The key is you don’t want to be too fussy. The more you have to contend with, especially in humidity, the hotter you will be. Keep your pieces light and flowy if you’re worried about sweating or being uncomfortable.
Summer Scarf
Summer scarves should be ultra light. I like to wear them when I have a tank top on but feel a little too exposed. Sometimes you just don’t want to walk into certain places feeling like you’re showing too much. A summer scarf is a great way to beat that. Plus, if you don’t have too much color in your wardrobe, its a nice way to add a little pop of bright. Also, you can tie a scarf about one million different ways so you can try a different look each time. And they look great on everyone and are very bank account friendly. Start stocking up.
Wrap Dress
Ladies, there’s a reason why Diane Von Furstenberg is such a big deal. She is the mind behind the always flattering wrap dress. They camouflage a tummy and show your waist line in the most flattering way possible while being a dress that is super comfortable. They look very understated while still being chic and allow your body to do all the talking. It’s a perfect way to look summer ready even if you aren’t as summer ready as you would like.
An Investment Watch
A lot of people like to keep their jewelry very simple in the summer…..I am not one of those people, but that doesn’t mean much. If you like to keep your jewelry more laid back then may I suggest you invest in a good watch. A nice gold or silver watch can take you from summer into every other season AND it actually serves a purpose. Imagine a world when people could tell the time without having to reach for their cell phones. What a crazy place that would be lol.
A lot of people think that when a season comes around they need to update their whole wardrobe. You don’t. You just need to add a couple of pieces in that serve their purpose. That way you can ensure you can get the wear out of them that you want to. All of these items that I’ve spoken about are just ideas for how to spruce up your summer wardrobe. The awesome part though, is that these are flattering on everyone. You can also find them at a price that works for you. Updating your wardrobe or beauty regimen doesn’t have to be scary or super costly. Half of the battle is knowing what will or won’t be a waste of your time and money. Now get out there and enjoy summer. Before you know it I will be talking about parkas and Sorel’s.
