I haven’t done a fashion crush for a while, so I figured why not come back with a red lipped, sexy, bang. My fashion crush today is the one and only Dita Von Teese. For those of you who don’t know who she is, then get ready for a serious girl crush. Not only is she a burlesque performer who does everything from dancing in ballet shoes to sitting in a giant martini glass sponging herself with a large green olive, but she is now a lingerie designer and author. Oh, and she was also involved in the most beautifully decorated wedding ever when she married Marilyn Manson, whom she has since divorced.

The reasons why I admire her are far too many to count. Dita has somehow managed to make sex her business, all while looking like a sophisticated movie star from the forties. Everything she does has a vintage esthetic, but it never feels like an act. She wears every current designer, from her Dior couture skirt suits down to the Louboutins on her feet and is always at the best fashion shows. Even though nudity is a huge part of her act, she always looks classy.

Let’s discuss her beauty for a moment before I continue to swoon over her couture. Dita is everything that I wish I could be and am not. Porcelain skin that is perfect (by the way, who gets naked in front of a ton of people without a spray tan these days? She does. That’s how amazing she is)and shiny jet black hair that’s styled like she took a time machine to the forties. She never looks covered in makeup either. Some liquid liner, long lashes and vampy red lips usually complete her look. She literally is flawless glamour.

Dita does a couple of things that I wish more women did. She does all things glamour of days past. Stockings, short gloves, pearls and pencil skirts are some of her staples. The best part is that you know that under that pencil skirt she is seriously rocking the whole garter belt lingerie scene. That’s what she’s known for. She is a woman that will completely forgo comfort to be true to her “kitten with a whip” esthetic. And I love her for it.image

Now, I know that they aren’t married anymore, but one of the first reasons I ever fell in love with her was because of her wedding to Marilyn Manson. I am one of those people that loves doing things different from everyone else. Well, their wedding was just that. Set in Ireland at Castle Gurteen, it was a multi day event and Manson had a “best man” AND a “worst man” because he couldn’t decide between two friends. Dita wore a royal purple silk taffeta gown by Vivienne Westwood. The castle was decorated in dark candlelight with black and red flowers, and all of the guests wore black or red as well. Swoon. It was seriously one of the sexiest events ever, and why shouldn’t it have been? It was Dita Von Teeses wedding, after all.

I once watched a special about her performances. To see this woman dance so gracefully in full, light pink ballet shoes (also made specially for her by Christian Loubouitin) and diamond covered pasties made me see just how beautiful burlesque could be. Sure, she is still pretty racy floating around in a martini glass, but you have to also give her credit. What a way to do it. She still manages to maintain her vintage femininity all while splashing herself down with a green olive sponge.

What I really admire about her is that she owns her sexuality all while looking like a lady. You never feel like she is putting herself on display……even though sometimes she actually is. You get the sense from her that the graceful and ladylike woman that you see on the street and on the stage is genuinely who she is. She is in love with everything vintage and that’s how she lives her life. That is how her home is, how her wardrobe is, how her beauty regimen is, and how her stage show is. You have to give a woman credit when she finds herself early on and lives her life the way that makes her happy, even if it is a lot of work. Not only is she beautiful, but she’s honest. Which to me, makes her even more beautiful.
