I have lots of pieces of jewelry that are very sentimental to me. I have been handed down tons of pieces from aunts, my grandma, and most importantly I was given all of my moms after she passed away. Of course there are pieces that I would never touch like dress watches, wedding bands, rings and pendants that are locked away. But there is also costume jewelry that I could never figure out exactly what to do with. I’m a knick knack collector and if something reminds me of someone I enjoy for it to be out where I can see it. If I put it away I forget all about it and stumble upon it later, only to forget about it again. So I started placing jewelry trinkets here and there. Brooches, earrings and necklaces are all great for the projects.
Frame It
Place a piece of linen inside of a frame and attach an old brooch by either glue or affix it by it’s pin if it still works. You have an instant piece of art for your wall. You could even place the name of the person who owned it under if it was passed down.
Bookmark It
I love reading, so when I came about this great way to make a personalized bookmark I flipped. You could even go so far as going to a fabric store and choosing your own fabric for it. Then fold it and spray with fabric glue for hold and spray starch to make it more sturdy. Simply attach your brooch or jewelry choice to the top by glue and you have your own, personalized, sparkly bookmark.
Wrap It
If you have a special gift you need to give, why not make the wrapping just as special. Wrap as usual but use a beautiful thick ribbon for the bow. In the middle of the bow affix an old brooch or cameo to instantly make it a beautiful memento.
Add It
Do you have any candles that you love the scents of but you never want to put them out because the jars they come in aren’t your favorite? Simply wrap an old bracelet around it or affix an old earring that has no back on it with glue.
Hairpin It
Affix some old jewelry using hot glue to the ends of your bobby pins for an instant Gatsby hair update. Adding a couple at your front hairline is always beautiful but adding a handful into your up-do is full on glamour.
Monogram It
Purchase a wooden initial at any craft store. Make it large so you can hang it on your wall. Glue some of your unusable jewelry to it for a pretty homage to someone you love.
Light It
Add a piece to the middle of a lampshade for some instant glamour in any room of your home.
Tie It
Don’t know what to do with old necklaces? Find two that are similar in color and use them as beautiful pull backs for curtains. I promise your company will sit up and take notice. It’s unique and very pretty.
Wreath It
If you enjoy making your own door wreath’s (or even if you have a store bought one kicking around) place some of your old jewelry throughout it for an instant and classy update. A little sparkle on a door is never a bad thing.
You can definitely do more than one of these projects for your home. Don’t be afraid of over doing it. If the jewelry you use is from someone important to you then display it proudly. Even if you purchased some of it vintage shopping, its still a great way to get use out of something that you would never have thought about wearing. Good luck, and if you stumble across another way to display old jewelry feel free to tell me about it. I would love to hear more ways to make my house sparkly!
