I don’t know about you, but I love the look of a sexy and full eyebrow. It really draws people into your eyes. You know what also draws people into your eyes? Having two drawn on chocolate bars above them. I don’t know when this became a “fad” but it has to stop. Ladies, some of you are walking around like you were involved in an explosion at a twix factory. Which if that’s your thing and you feel good then rock it, but don’t be offended if you get thrown the side eye on the street. However, if you love the look of a full brow and just don’t know the do’ and don’t s then it’s not your fault for looking like Groucho Marx’s love child. Here are some of my favorite tips of the eyebrow trade. Hopefully they can get you closer to that perfect brow your aspiring for.

1: First of all, there are going to be eyebrow types more flattering for your face shape than others. Grab an eyeliner pencil and stand in from of a mirror. Now outline your face and take a step back. This should give you a clear picture of what the shape of your face is.

  • Square face- softly rounded eyebrows like Diane Kruger
  • Round face- high arch like Mila Kunis
  • Long face- extended eyebrow like Liv Tyler
  • Heart shaped face- groomed eyebrow like Jennifer Aniston
  • Oval face- slightly arched brow like Gwyneth Paltrow

2: Now that you’ve established your face shape lets get started on the actual brow business. Lets see where your eyebrows start shall we? Usually a great brow starts about one inch above the inner corner of your eye. You can even take an eye or eyebrow pencil, line it up to the inside corner of your eye and make a mark on your eyebrow where that spot would be. That’s your starting point.

3: let’s do the same now for where your brow should end. Lay the pencil so the end is at the bottom of your nose and the other end reaches the outer corner of your eye. Where the pencil runs past the outer edge of your eye and touches your brow is your sweet spot. Tweeze any hairs past that point.

4: now let’s decide on the thickness you want to achieve. Your brows should be between a quarter inch and a half inch thick at their biggest. Yes, any of you walking around with four inch thick brows, this ones directed at you. Take your pencil and draw a line following the shape of your brow along the bottom. Don’t get carried away. This is your tweeze area. It should only be to weed out the stray hairs and make plucking them and revealing your brow shape easier. Not to get rid of half of the brow in general.

5: last we will determine the shape of your arch. It should peak above the outer rim of your iris. Kind of like an upside down check mark. Remove a few hairs from that area at a time until your happy with it. It should be a clean visible arch. Think Blake Lively. Not Pamela Anderson Lee. Remember that a light hand is best at doing this. You can always tweeze an extra hair. You can’t use voodoo magic to make it instantly grow back. Less is more.

There! You should have a delicately cleaned brow! Now come the makeup options. You can use a brow powder with an angled brush and light wrist flicks to fill in sparse areas. Or for more of a defined look you can use an eyebrow pencil using light feathered movements to fill in the whole brow. Some people like to outline the brow lightly first to define the shape and then fill it in. It depends on whatever your personally comfortable with. If worse comes to worse you can always wipe it off and try again. That’s the fun of makeup! Choose a color closest to your hair color or a slight tone darker. Just remember ladies, filling your eyebrows in isn’t for everyone or for the faint of heart. Don’t try it the night of the first time your sleeping over at your new boyfriends. You aren’t going to want to remove your epic new eyebrows in front of him and there’s nothing sexy about waking up in the morning with one eyebrow one your face and one eyebrow on his pillow. Try it for the first time when your having a night at home with your cat. I can guarantee Mittens won’t judge you.

I will say though, that the more you do it the more comfortable you will be and the better you will get at it. Next thing you know voila! No more chocolate bars.
