Finding the perfect shade of red lipstick can be very troublesome. You can end up looking Mad Men fabulous…….or like Courtney Loves worse off sister. You can wander around for hours trying lipsticks on the back of your hand, eventually leaving the store with the back of your hand stained red and no new lipstick. Also I have huge issues with other people picking out makeup for me just because they said they “loved” it. Do you love this bright purple on me? Or do you love that this hideous color has a ridiculous seventy dollar price tag. So I usually don’t rely on people working in the cosmetics section to make these choices for me. And if you follow the skin tone rules again, you won’t have to either.
Fair Skin
Fair skin should always aim for a lighter, bright cherry red. A true brick red can look to heavy and muddy on a fair skin tone. Revlon Cherries in The Snow is a great example of a shade that would work well.
Medium Skin
Alright medium skin toned ladies. Brick red is your best friend. Live it. Learn it. It’s the truest red you can find. Too light of red can make you like you wiped your lipstick off and didn’t get it all, and any deeper your venturing into a deep berry lip. Which lucky enough for you would also work amazingly well. MAC Red looks great against a warm skin tone.
Dark Skin
Dark skinned beauties should lean more towards brown-reds, mahogany or red wine shades. If your not afraid of a little attention you can definatly kick out a true red, but be warned, its not going to be a subtle look. At all. Think Rihanna. Bobbi Brown Rich lip color in Crimson is a perfect red wine color for darker skin.
With these little lip tips in your back pocket you’ll be ready to rock a red pout in no time. Sometimes even the daintiest lady has to get a little lippy.
This is true. I’m see-through pale. Red lipstick is dicey for me because it has to be the perfect shade. Too much brown or orange and I look like a clown.
I hear ya! Tomato red makes me look like a crazy clown stripper.
I still can’t muster up the courage to wear lipstick that’s less subtle than a pale pink gloss. I feel like it’s competing too much with my eyes and my glasses, which are both fairly dark. Maybe I just need to get over it. Haha
Oh lord girl. With your skin tone you can rock it so much easier than a lot of people out there. I get the glasses thing but its actually easier with glasses. It will come off as more balanced.
