Ok, let’s face it. It’s about to get real damn cold, real damn quick. As much as I want to live in sweats when the cold hits, I do have to leave my house at some point. When I do leave, my main goal is to not look like something that was pulled out of a drain. Here are some ways to pull yourself together for the winter. I’m just giving you examples, you can find all of these things in every price range.
Rich Nail Color
When the cold weather rolls
in, it’s time to leave the neons put away for when the sun comes back out. To easily update your look for winter, try dark and earthy nails. They always look ladylike, plus what a great way to stand out against the snow. Think navy, burgundy, or dark grey if black is too edgy for your taste.
A lot of people think that to be stylish you need a million different choices. That’s not true. When it comes to coats you just need one great one. You can always style it differently with your accessories. Find one that’s a little on the dressier side. That way you can dress it up or down and have all of your bases covered.
You can definitely have a pair of boots that are warm and stylish. Boots are kind of a Canadian necessity, hello snow up to the doorknob! Be sure to try them on to make sure that your toes don’t pinch otherwise you won’t ever take them out of your closet. Also, wear a thick pair of socks when you go to try them on. Chances are you’re going to have them on when it’s -40, so this way you’re going to make sure that your winter boots are going to be a half size up when you’re trying them on.
Ok, there are hockey rink gloves and then there are dressier gloves. I’m going to talk about the dressier kind. It’s easy to find gloves that are just to keep you warm. Always keep your eyes open for gloves that you can wear with your fancier attire. Finding some that you actually like is like finding a leprechaun. When you find said “magical” gloves, buy them in a neutral color or in black. Now you have ensured that they will go with almost anything.
If you are from anywhere that gets really cold in the winter, then you know that there is a big difference between a summer scarf and a winter scarf. First off, a summer scarf is always thin and light material. The same material that when any kind of chill hits it, it will stay cold and become your worst nightmare. Secondly, winter scarves can stop you from getting frostbite on your nose and ears. A summer scarf is really just an accessory. A winter scarf is necessary. It’s also a great way to throw a new spin on that fabulous winter coat of yours.
There’s no time for a cute little beanie in the wintertime. Don’t fool yourself. So look for a more fashionable hat while trying to be weather friendly. You can try fur, a tweed bucket hat, or even a suede or velvet floppy hat. Whatever your style is, just make sure that your ears are protected from the wind and that it serves a purpose besides just looking good.
This is the one product that I carry in every bag, and that I have in every room. I can use it on my son, my husband uses it and I douse myself in it. It’s great for everything. You can cure chapped lips, a chapped nose from blowing it when you’re sick, and even for your cuticles. It’s perfect for most of winters dry skin and chapping horseshit.
When the cold and snow hits, it makes leaving the house a lot easier if you are ready and have some warm outerwear. You can definitely find beautiful pieces in every price range, so don’t be afraid of having to drop a ton of cash to look good. A great trick is to write down the style, length, material or color that you’re looking for. That way you have a clear vision and won’t walk out with something that you won’t wear. That IS a money waster ladies. I hope you all keep warm this winter!
