I’m sure that we have all been there. You want your teeth a couple of shades lighter, try to use some white strips, and can’t eat anything hot or cold for the rest of your life. If you’re one of the people in this boat, then why not try some of these natural alternatives. What’s the worst that can happen? That you keep some enamel on your teeth, that’s what.

1. Create a paste out of mashed strawberries and brush onto your teeth. I would like to point out that this is one alternative that tastes delicious (baking soda and peroxide I’m looking at you….but we will get there shortly).

2. Mix baking soda, salt and water and brush into teeth as if it were a toothpaste. (This tastes exactly what sadness would taste like, but it works).

3. Eat lots of citrus fruits. It generates additional saliva which helps to keep your mouth clean.

4. Eating and drinking milk products help with periodontal disease and will also help reduce the discoloration of teeth.

5. Crunchy foods enables you to take away a lot of the glucose and chemical substances the lead to stains.

6. Mixing some hydrogen peroxide with your toothpaste and brushing as usual helps to get rid of stains. Do NOT swallow any though. Rinse thoroughly and spit it the hell out.

7. Apples, carrots and celery are all organic stain removers.

8. When drinking coffee, soft drinks, and wine, use a straw to limit contact with enamel.

9. Always floss!!!!

10. Use a liquid paste of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda (yet again, it’s sadness and despair for your taste buds, but it works wonders).

11. Rinse with water or mouthwash when you are finished eating.

12. Brush with bay leaves and orange peel for an easy whitener.

13. Take one tablespoon of natural oil and swish around in your mouth for one minute. Aka oil pulling to remove germs.

14. Try a regular whitening toothpaste. There are tons on the market that aren’t abrasive and that taste delicious. They are mild enough for every day use.

15. If your back is really against the wall, you could always try the devil tooth whitening strips. Just be careful because they can leave you with a mouth filled with overly sensitive teeth.

16. Baking soda mixed with lemon juice acts as a mouth freshener and stain remover.

17. Mix virgin olive oil with apple cider vinegar and soak your toothbrush in the mixture before brushing.

18. Use tooth whitening trays to get your teeth white quickly…plus you look like you’re about to fight in a boxing match.

Even if your teeth are as white as fresh snow, oral hygiene is very important. Teeth are one of those things that people notice right away. Plus, for people to notice your teeth, that means that you’re smiling. Smiling is always a good thing. Feel free to try some of these DIY whiteners and let me know how they work for you!
