Eyelashes can make a huge impact on how you look. I know that sounds crazy, but lots of ladies swear by a sweep of their mascara wand. Sometimes it’s the only makeup you need if you just want to look a little more awake and put together. Now, because we don’t have makeup artists at home, applying falsies everyday might seem a bit too much. If you don’t want to deal with eyelash extension appointments or having to battle with eyelash glue everyday, then just try these simple mascara tricks.
1. The darker, the better. Black provides bolder results and better definition, so even if you prefer a brown eyeliner, try to still use a black mascara.
2. Don’t use waterproof everyday if you can help it. First, even with makeup remover it’s still a bitch to get off. You’ll end up pulling out more than a few eyelashes. Secondly, regular use will make your eyelashes dry causing them to become more brittle.
3. When I’m doing someone’s makeup I always apply lots of coats of mascara. I know that you’ve probably heard “only two coats” before. Well forget that. Apply two coats at first of a thickening formula, then add at least one more of a different kind. This will add some length and separate while keeping the thickness. It makes you look like you’re wearing falsies.
4. When you start doing your makeup, fill a glass up with hot water and place your tube of mascara in it until you’re ready to apply it. Try to let it sit for at least five minutes. This thins out the formula and helps it go on smoother so that there’s no clumping.
5. Always try to look down when you’re applying mascara. You get more access to the root of the lash this way.
6. If you have a hard time getting your corner lashes, simply bend the brush of the mascara wand so that it’s easier to work with.
7. Dust baby powder over your lashes between the first and second coats to immediately thicken them.
8. If you find that your favorite mascara is starting to flake, add a couple of drops of saline solution to the tube.
9. Heat your eyelash curler with a hair dryer or hold a lighter under it long enough to slightly warm it. This will help curl your eyelashes more and will hold the curl longer.
10. Use your eyelash curler to open your beer (in case you’re too good to carry a bottle opener in your bag, which I am not lol). Ps yes I realize the last one isn’t about your eyelashes, but it’s still pretty damn important. You’re welcome!
I’ve had many brides come to me and ask me if they should use fake eyelashes on their wedding day. I always say no because using these tips I can always make it look like their lashes are full and long without having the heavy black strip going across their eyelids for photos. Give it a try. It takes five minutes and is the only make up you need sometimes.
