Don’t hold me accountable if what I’m about to say jinxes everyone, but, I think that spring is here. Thank. Fuck. Anyhow, according to my roots, it’s time to put some effort in. If you are looking to go a little lighter for the spring or summer, then don’t fear. Here are some awesome highlighting techniques that will lighten you up while maintaining a natural look.
These are usually done by cap or foil and are highlights that go all the way up to the root. It’s a great way to lighten up all over, rather than strategically. This isn’t one or two pieces of hair people, this is going to lighten your whole overall color.
This seventies hair technique is back in a big way. Your highlights are hand painted on farther down the shaft to make natural looking highlights. Plus, because there isn’t a lot of highlight at your roots, it makes your hair color super easy to maintain.
Dig up a baby picture of yourself from in the summer. That’s exactly what this trend is supposed to mimic. The majority of your color should still be natural, with delicate little highlighted accents. Chunky highlighted be gone! Your stylist will focus color on your hairline, natural part and at the ends of your hair. Your highlights will be very fine and thin at the crown and will be two shades lighter on the very ends.
Ecaille Highlights Aka Tortoishell
You can thank preggo Blake Lively for starting this trend. This technique gives you that healthy highlight look without being super blonde. Basically, this is a slightly darker version of your natural hair color paired with lots of warm golden highlights. If your highlights came out white, it’s wrong. Plus when your done, there should be a ton of shine. It’s a new, deeper and healthier way to highlight.
Whoever wants to say that “ombre is out” should run and grab a fashion mag. I think we have been spoiled at this point. Ladies, you don’t touch your roots with this one. Like, ever. You can do gradual or more of an eye grabbing ombre by leaving your roots at about ear level and gradually making it the lightest color at the bottom. Usually it’s all over hair color from the ears down. Plus did I mention that you don’t have to touch your roots? Winning.
Those are some super easy options to take your hair color up a notch for the spring. Let me know if you try any!
