They say that everything that was once in style comes back around. It’s true. After all, this past year we have seen an ode to the seventies on every designers runway shows. What about beauty looks though? Yes it’s true for them as well. So the next time you’re looking for some hair and makeup inspo, just think back to some of your favorite beauties of the past. Ps the beautiful lady that I used as my main photo just happens to be my mom. Not only was she a looker, but word on the street is she could drink beer like a sailor on leave. Hey, I got it from somewhere.

Subtle Neautralsimage

Jane Birkin is your go to for neutral makeup. She always looked soft and approachable but had a little dash of sex appeal. Those French girls never disappoint. For this type of makeup, smudge a dark brown shadow in your eye crease with nothing on the bottom. Add a coat of mascara and you’re done. This look isn’t very “done”. It’s a natural, sweet and youthful vibe.

Heavy Lashesimage

Oh Faye Dunaway, you rocked the heavy lash and you rocked it well. This look is definitely a California girl classic. Think clean and glowing skin and lots of lashes. The balance of the mascara is what makes this look pop. One hundred percent heavy on top lashes while only seventy-five percent heavy on the bottom lashes. Don’t forget about the perfectly arched eyebrows that frame the eyes so beautifully.

Red Lipstickimage

Calling all glamour girls, this ones for you. While Elizabeth Taylor was known for her violet eyes, she also wore the hell out of a red lip. Half of this look is choosing the right red for you ( fair skin always looks great with a cool, rosy red). The other half is applying a matching liner first so that your lines are super clean and also so that the color won’t bleed.

Bold Makeupimage

Blonde messy bed hair, dark filled in brows, cheek contouring, Debbie Harry did it all. She would even wear her smokey shadow all the way to her temples, a feat not even practiced by most makeup lovers today. She is proof that you can play up every feature on your face without looking like you’re playing dress up.

Winged Linerimage

Personally, I think that Bridgette Bardot is one of the most beautiful women that has ever walked the earth. Her perfect winged liner just added even more sexuality and flirtiness (I already told you about those French girls). She made a cat eye look so simple and chic with some eyeliner and mascara and nothing else. She didn’t just keep it as an evening only look either. She took this out in the sun in her bikini and never looked silly for doing so. If you are wanting to try this look, remember that super round eyes can look funny with a big flick on the end of the eyelid, so try to create a shorter flick out to the side to balance.

So the next time you’re going out and you feel like you’re in a boring beauty rut, think of some makeup you’ve seen in the past that you’ve fallen in love with. With a few tweaks you can make it more currant, but the feel will be the same. Having some inspiration on your side is always a good thing. If it comes from your grandma, your mom, or your favorite celebrity from the big screen, the results will all be the same. Beautiful.
