Sometimes when I go out I get stopped and asked questions. I know that may sound odd to you, but it’s something that’s always happened to me. My husband at this point has just made peace with the fact that if we are out for a nice supper, the waitress and I will end up having a conversation about beauty products and style. So, I figured I would share with you some of the answers to my most frequently asked questions.

Anything To Do With My Sunglasses

Ninety nine percent of my time is spent in sunglasses. I don’t care if it’s snowing or dark out, I’m wearing them. I always get asked what brand I’m wearing. Here’s the thing, I have a LOT of sunglasses. Not because I’m fabulous, but because they are a staple for me. I don’t really care about the brand, I care about the shape. So my sunglasses range from five dollars to five hundred dollars (obviously there are more five dollar pairs and I don’t hyperventilate about breaking them when I wear them). So don’t focus on brands. I focus on large seventies shapes that will compliment my style. I will say that my favorite pair ever though are some from the seventies in a light burgundy by Dior. Totally vintage and to most people, totally ridiculous.

How I Do My Hair

I get told all of the time that I have a lot of hair admirers. Here’s the thing. This isn’t my hair. Well, some of it is, but a lot of it is weave. Lots of weave. I have very fine hair and no matter how much it’s blown out it always looks limp and crappy. So at first I got my weave to grow my hair out. Now that my hair is long I use it for fullness. Plus, because I don’t play around, I’ll still throw a clip in into the mix as well just to add a little more Dolly Parton oomph. My styling game is pretty simple. I curl with a curling iron in layers and spray with a beach spray after, pulling the curls down to loosen them. Spray with one million pounds of hairspray and that’s the end. Not so amazing now, is it? Hahaha.

What Am I Wearing For Perfume

I always get asked what scent I’m wearing. I try to use the same perfume for around a year. Sometimes if I find one that I like I will buy four bottles right there so that I don’t ever run out. I’m very serious about my perfume. Right now my go to is Roberto Cavalli Nero Assoluto or Roberto Cavalli. They both are in identical bottles but one is clear glass and one is black. They are both phenomenal. Another favorite is Stella McCartney L.I.L.Y and I was married in Dior Addict 2. Like I said, my perfume game is pretty strong. However, how it smells on me might not be how it smells on you because perfume reacts differently to body chemistry, so always try before you buy. Also, I’m not afraid of mixing scents. I actually do it a lot. That way you have more of a custome made, just for you perfume.

How Can They Pull Off Fur

I’m always in a fur vest or coat. Let me rephrase that, I’m always in a faux fur vest or coat (unless it’s vintage and then I consider it ok because I’m at least recycling it). My answer to anyone wanting to try to work some fur in to their wardrobe is to just go for it. It’s cozy, it’s comfortable, and it helps hide those couple of pounds from overindulging in dip. Personally it’s one of my all time favorite looks and I don’t think that it discriminates. As long as you don’t pair it with some sweat pants you’ll do just fine.

How Do I Get My Glow

People like to point out that I’m usually pretty golden. All that takes is a good self tanner. I haven’t used a tanning bed for six years now and I live in Canada so I obviously haven’t seen the sun in at least three. St.Tropez makes amazingly real self tanners. They don’t leave you orange and they also don’t leave your skin dry. However, they are on the expensive side. If you’re not wanting to pay that price, then L’Oreal makes some that are just as good. I prefer a lotion because I have dry skin, so the mousse and spray can leave my skin feeling tight. Also, apply regular lotion every day after applying to keep your color fresh. I also like to use a bit more bronzer and highlighter when I do my makeup to play it up more.

What’s My Favorite Denim

I’m very picky when it comes to jeans. VERY. I have to feel good or else my whole night is down the shitter. For me personally they have to look good and be comfortable or else I will never wear them. For my body type I find that Seven for All Mankind jeans work very well and they last for at least six years. I’ve had some of mine for eight and there is no wear to them at all. Also, I really like J Brand Love Story jeans. They have a perfect flare to balance out your butt and have a great amount of stretch. I don’t like jeans with stretch because I like them to keep their shape, but these have a small amount so that you don’t have to do karate kicks around your house to get into them after they’ve been washed. I’m also not a fan of skinny jeans because I feel like I look like two turkey legs walking around. That’s my personal choice though. Plus, with boots, they are balanced out. Turkey legs no more.

How Am I So Self Assured

Uuuuuum. I’m not. Like, at all. I went out this past weekend and had such a bad anxiety attack before leaving my house that I couldn’t do the buttons up on my blouse because my hands were shaking so bad. I just have to stop myself, ask myself what’s the worst that can happen and remind myself that until something happens, there’s nothing to worry about. If something happens I will deal with it accordingly in that moment. I always have to remind myself that I can’t sit idly by waiting for something bad to happen. I have to just power through and take things as they come.

How Much I Spend On Clothes

I’ve had a lot of people make jokes about how much money I must spend on my wardrobe. The funny part is, they probably spend more on their clothes than I do. I actually don’t do that much shopping. I haven’t shopped in months as of right now. As much as I love style, I really love vintage and I really, really love a bargain. If you want seventies inspired fashion from a store you’re looking at runway (Gucci I’m looking at you) and you’re looking at thousands. Well, I can’t do that. Literally. I don’t have the money lol. What you’re looking at is a lot of vintage mixed with staple pieces that I’m willing to pay a bit extra for. Put your money into things that you’ll always love, in classic pieces that will never go out of style. After that mix in your dash of quirk to make it your own.

How Can I Wear Shoes That Are So High

Most people are very surprised to learn that I’m actually quite short. They see me when I’m out or when I’m in pictures and think that I’m six feet tall. Nope. I have six inch heels on. This always brings out the question “How do your feet not hurt?”. Well, for one, they do. They hurt. There is no way around that. If you plan on wearing any type of heel for over five hours your feet are going to feel like they’re covered in fire ants. Secondly, I don’t commit to stilettos unless it’s a wedding or I’m wearing a dress that calls for them. I always go for a platform wedge. In the winter it’s a platform wedge bootie and in the summer it’s a platform wedge sandal. They are still super high, but because the bottom is flat it doesn’t bother your arch as much throughout the night.

What Is The One Product That’s The Best For Multitasking

If you’re working with a set budget or don’t need a lot of makeup, then choose a good blush in a warm peach or a good medium toned bronzer. With either of these you can bring out your cheekbones, use it as an eyeshadow, and dust some across your lips with some gloss on top for lipstick. It’s an easy way to get a monochromatic look where your features stand out, not your makeup. Sometimes when you have too many choices you can get in a rut. With a monochromatic look it’s all very balanced. It lets your eyes shine and doesn’t look like you’re loaded down with products.

How Do I Blow Off Steam

There are lots of ways that I blow off steam or de-stress. A good three hour phone conversation with friends is my main go to. Sometimes you just need to stop and listen to someone else to put your own horseshit into perspective. It’s not all bad all the time. Everyone goes through stuff and sometimes you need to be reminded of that. Giving advice and getting advice will clear your head and help you to focus on what’s actually important. You’re still here to have the conversation you’re having. That’s the main thing. Oh, and wine and beer are pretty good ways to blow off steam too…..

There you have it. Those are my “secrets” that I always get asked about. If you ever have any other questions that you want to ask me, hit me up at:
