Every season there comes along a hairstyle that blows everyone’s doors off. This season it happens to be the messy bob. You know you’re in good company when Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Lauren Conrad and Kate Bosworth have all hopped on board. Plus, any haircut that gives off the cool girl vibe that Alexa Chung has mastered is alright by me. If this is what you’re into, then make an appointment with your stylist ASAP and request a textured bob. The length is up to you. You can go shoulder length and up. Here’s how to style it.

Prepimage

1. Start with a good volumizing or texturizing mousse. Make sure that you get it throughout all of your hair. This look is all about imperfect perfection. Sure, you can also straighten this and wear it super sleek too, but I’m going to go through how to get that messy, sexy look. Once you have your mousse evenly run through your hair, then flip your head upside down and give it a blast with a blowdryer. Pulling on your roots with your hand. This is just to add a bit more volume.

2. Section your hair with a clip. I like to pile most of my hair up on top of my head with a clip and start at the bottom. Then as I work my way up I just let more hair down. Curl with a curling iron from the root to mid shaft leaving your ends straight. Make sure that you use different sizes of hair as you curl each time so that it’s not too perfect and even. Try to use a 1 1/4″ barrel curling iron as well. When your full head is done, mist with hairspray and let your curls cool.

3. Now, take each curl and split it up into two or three pieces, depending on the size. Once you have them all “undone”, spray all over with some sea salt spray while raking your fingers through the curls. Make sure that you spray a little extra on your ends if you want them to be a little straighter. Just start with a little and add more if need be because you don’t want to completely lose the curl. Then take some texture spray or light hold hairspray and give a quick shot all over, scrunching from the ends up so that your ends blend in more and don’t look poker straight. Give a little shake of the head and put any hair back into place that might be to disheveled.

There, you should have an amazing, sexy and undone textured bob. It’s simple, it’s cool, and it’s the style to try right now. Let me know if you try it out!
