So today was one of those days. I’m sure you know the kind I’m talking about. One of those days where you get a great compliment, followed by hearing some second party negativity about all of the ways you’re just absolutely terrible. The worst ever even. Usually when this happens to me I spiral out of control, get upset, and eventually get an ulcer. I wish I could be one of those people that could ignore catty comments, but alas it’s just not in my nature. And I would be lying to you if I said that it didn’t bother me. However, since I have started this website I have been warned that putting my personal thoughts into the world could garner some negative feedback. So I have slowly started making adjustments as to how I can handle it better and not let it hit me so hard. Let me tell you…..it worked. Instead of curling up into a ball while crying “whyyyy meeee?!?!?” I decided I would put that effort into looking after my skin. The results were smoother skin and a weirdly calm me. Basically my plan of attack is every time I get down, I’m going to do something that I can write about. Then at least I’m getting something out of it. Today’s was giving myself an at home facial. So if your skin or soul needs a little pick me up, pull that hair back and get started. You won’t regret it.
Wash Up
Use a cleanser that’s appropriate for your skin type to remove any dirt, oil, or residue.
Get Scrubbing
You should get into the habit of exfoliating at least once a week to remove dry skin and to unblock your pores. You can even do it in the shower. Just apply a face scrub onto wet skin and massage for about thirty seconds. Then rinse it off.
Now That’s Steamy
Steam will open those pores and help the product your going to put on your face after really sink in. All you have to do is boil some water and place in a bowl. Grab a towel to drape over your head and place your face over the steamy water. The towel should block the steam from getting out. Pull up a chair and sit in the steam for five to ten minutes.
Product Time
When choosing a face mask, always go with your skin type. I find that pore purifying masks or firming masks generally work for everyone. Just slap it on everywhere except for close to your eyes and wait the amount of time it tells you to leave it on. Once you have rinsed it off use a toner to make sure there is no residue left and to tighten those pores up.
Rehydrate
Now you apply your moisturizer and eye cream. I like to mix some pure vitamin E serum into my face cream to get a really hydrating treatment. You’ll be shiny like a disco ball though, so be warned.
If you want to make your at home facial even more spa like, mix up a pitcher of water with some fresh cucumber and mint. Then you’re hydrating both inside and out. By the time you’re done, you and your skin will feel like new. So the next time you feel pulled down, give yourself a pick me up. And if you feel better when you’re done then it will show you that whatever was bothering you in the first place really wasn’t worth the worry.
