Since it was recently thanksgiving here, I have had the opportunity to read on social media what people I follow are thankful for. While I am also thankful for a lot of the same things, I wondered what would happen if I sat down and thought about things that I’m thankful for every day. Not just on a holiday where people tell you to pay attention to it. I mean on an average day, where you don’t have to be politically correct or socially aware about it. I’m calling it the real list. Here are the things that may seem small to you, but make me smile and feel very grateful.

1. There are days that social media gets the better of me and I am filled with rage and have something absolutely hateful to say. I will fight the urge to text my best friends and spew my hate everywhere. I am thankful for when I am in one of those moods, one of my best friends can actually sense what I’m about to bitch about and will text me exactly what I’m thinking. I know its terrible, but it feels so good when that door is kicked open for me.

2. I’m thankful for every time my husband goes outside and picks up the dog poop. I’m not even kidding. Who needs wine and roses? If you pick up the dog poop so I don’t have to, then you will have my heart forever.

3. I’m thankful for the times that I’m in a city and I smile and say hi to people on the street or hold the door for them and they are surprised. Then their surprise melts into a slow smile and they always say “you’re from a small town aren’t you?”. Why yes, yes I am. Thank you.

4. I’m thankful for the name “mum mum”. My son bestowed it upon me when he first started to talk. It has since become my household legacy.

5. I’m thankful for my friends. I realize how lucky I am to be surrounded by busy and amazing people. If we don’t speak for three weeks it’s fine. You pick right back up where you left off. That’s what real friendship is. No drama. No hard feelings. Just love and understanding.

6. I’m thankful for my family. I come from a family of jokesters and I always laugh. Sarcasm runs through our veins. On my other side, they are laid back and welcoming dancing machines that love fun. So basically, everyone is a pretty damn good time.

7. I’m thankful that I inherited my dad’s giant shark mouth smile and laugh. I’ll put it to you this way, there’s no way you can’t tell when either of us are enjoying ourselves. You get me laughing hard enough and you could use me as a prop at Universal Studios.

8. I’m thankful for my in-laws. Ten years ago I would never have thought that I would write that. Since then I don’t know anyone who would make me chocolate chip cookies just because I wanted some, or having to be on my father in laws ass about how much junk he’s eaten that day. I can’t imagine family get together without any of them, and I sure can’t imagine going out on an all night drinking and dancing fest without my youngest brother in law. It’s like our own production of Grease when we go out…..if the cast of Grease drank 300 beer and 200 shots before they filmed.

9. I’m thankful for everyone that takes the time to come on this site and read what I have to say. You guys are the best. To have people in the world that support you is a crazy thing. I don’t think I could ever actually be able to express the amount of gratitude that I have, but trust me, it’s there. With that, I’m also thankful for my brand manager who designed the website for me and listens patiently to my many panic attacks about “not being good enough”. You’re amazing at what you do. Thank you.

10. I’m thankful for my dog following me into the bathroom every time I walk in there. I haven’t been to the bathroom by myself since my son was born. Right when he lost interest in what I might be doing in there, we got a puppy. So good luck murderers. Looks like you won’t be popping out from behind the shower curtain and getting me for at least another ten to fifteen.

11. I’m thankful for people that are consistent with me. If you hate me enough that you won’t even say hi whenever I see you, then thank you. I know people that I thought liked me that sometimes won’t throw a hi my way. So it’s always nice to know where I actually stand.

12. I’m thankful that “twerking” is almost fucking over. Or as I like to call it “the Macarena of today’s youth”. Seriously, you know to have a conversation with you while you’re doing that dance someone would have to literally crouch in front of you on the dance floor, right? I can’t imagine how many people love duck walking up to ask if they can buy you a drink.

12. I’m thankful for all of the shitty bullshit I’ve been through and the bad days I’ve had. The bad people that I’ve let in and the disappointments I’ve endured. Without all of these things I wouldn’t have learned the lessons that I have and I wouldn’t be the person that I am today.

12. I’m thankful for my sons enthusiasm about the little things. You could wrap up a pencil as a gift and he would squeal with glee. He reminds me everyday that something as small as an apple is a reason to be grateful. He greets every day with the biggest smile ever and everything for him is filled with a thousand possibilities. It’s pretty awesome.

13. I’m thankful for all of the things that my husband does with me that he hates. Yahtzee marathons, hours of The Rachel Zoe Project and Real Housewives, talking about fashion, making him change out of his sweatpants to go to the store, and listening to me sing Fleetwood Mac at foghorn level while twirling around like Stevie Nicks. He may not like it, but he does it. And he does it for me.

14. I’m thankful for all of those internet quizzes that you can take. Without them I wouldn’t know that I was a hippie in a past life, or that if I were a gemstone I would be a diamond, or that if I were a saying I would be “bro’s before ho’s”. Thank you for clearing up all of those questions for me.

15. I’m thankful for my friends and family’s health. I saved this for last because I realize that it can change in an instant. But for now, we all seem to be doing alright. I will keep my fingers crossed that it continues.

There are obviously a lot more things that I am thankful for, but I thought I would limit myself to fifteen. Some big, some small, some you’ve probably never thought about. Sometimes you don’t even need anything to be thankful for, just the fact that you can be thankful, or that the option is there, is enough. I hope that you all had a wonderful and twerkless thanksgiving.
